چکیده

This paper describes a robot who converses with multi-person using his multi-modal interface. The multi-person conversation includes many new problems, which are not cared in the conventional oneto-one conversation: such as information flow problems (recognizing who is speaking and to whom he is speaking / appealing to whom the system is speaking), space information sharing problem and turn holder estimation problem (estimating who is the next speaker). We solved these problems by utilizing multi-modal interface: face direction recognition, gesture recognition, sound direction recognition, speech recognition and gestural expression. The systematic combination of these functions realized human friendly multi-person conversation system.

Robot programming through multi-modal interaction

As robots enter the human environment and come in contact with inexperienced users, they need to be able to interact with users in a multi-modal fashion—keyboard and mouse are no longer acceptable as the only input modalities. Humans should be able to communicate with robots using methods as similar as possible to the concise, rich, and diverse means they use to communicate with one another. Th...

Multi-Party Quantum Dialogue with the Capability to Expand the Number of Users at Runtime

Quantum dialogue is a type of quantum communication in which users can simultaneously send messages to each other. The earliest instances of quantum dialogue protocols faced security problems such as information leakage and were vulnerable to intercept and resend attacks. Therefore, several protocols have been presented that try to solve these defects. Despite these improvements, the quantum di...

An Evaluation of Multi-Modal User Interface Elements for Tablet-Based Robot Teleoperation

For robot teleoperation systems, tablet and smart phone user interfaces provide portability and accessibility to allow anyone anywhere to connect to the system quickly and easily. This can be highly advantageous for disaster-relief robot systems where timing is critical. However, the small screen size and unconventional input methods mean that traditional teleoperation user interface elements, ...

Experimental Evaluation of a Multi-modal User Interface for a Robotic Service

This paper reports the experimental evaluation of a MultiModal User Interface (MMUI) designed to enhance the user experience in terms of service usability and to increase acceptability of assistive robot systems by elderly users. The MMUI system offers users two main modalities to send commands: they are a GUI, usually running on the tablet attached to the robot, and a SUI, with a wearable micr...

Towards Seamless Integration in a Multi-modal Interface

We are designing and implementing a multi-modal interface to an autonomous robot. For this interface, we have elected to use natural language and gesture. Gestures can be either natural gestures perceived by a vision system installed on the robot, or they can be made by using a stylus on a Personal Digital Assistant. In this paper we describe how we are attempting to provide a seamless integrat...
